Karaki Ichibei specialized in managing the budgets of families in dire financial straits. Skilled in both the abacus and sword, Ichibei visited various homes to assist those struggling financially and facing adversity. Despite his cheerful demeanor, he carries the burden of accidentally causing a person's death while trying to help another. This is why he emphasizes the importance of preserving life no matter the circumstances.

Ooka Echizen was a magistrate in the Edo period who backed the Kyoho Reforms proposed by the eighth shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune. In addition to overseeing Edo, Ooka served on the judicial council and handled local government matters, as well as the management of temples and shrines. He dispensed justice with compassion and impartiality, earning a reputation for his fair and humane rulings known as Ooka Sabaki.

In response to the gang's activities, the shogunate appointed Abe Shikibu to lead the public security force Hitsuke Tozoku Aratamekata with the task of eliminating the Kumokiri gang. This marked the beginning of a fierce battle of wits and pride between Nizaemon and Shikibu. Despite the continuous threat posed by Hitsuke Tozoku Aratamekata, the Kumokiri gang sought to target a wealthy Owari merchant, only to be met by Shikibu's resistance. In 1868, discussions between the shogunate and the new government lead to the agreement to hand over Edo Castle. Kakurai Hayato, a hesitant warrior from Owari supporting the government forces, is tasked with overseeing the smooth surrender of the castle. The only issue is a retainer named Matooya Rokubei who refuses to leave. Rokubei, a former guard of the shogun, remains seated and only moves to attend to personal needs. Due to promises made to Saigo Takamori and Katsu Kaishu, disputes within the castle are prohibited, making it impossible to remove Rokubei by force. As Kakurai spends more time with the man, he begins to develop a strange understanding and respect for Rokubei's traditional demeanor.

The air around Edo Castle holds a tense vibe. A childless general falls gravely ill during a power struggle for succession. In order to protect a man who resembles Unokichi, the shogun summons Amari Bizen no Kami and his younger brother Yukichiyo. However, an immediate attempt on Yukichiyo's life forces him to flee and go into hiding. To ensure Yukichiyo's safety, Amari Bizen switches their identities, making Yukichiyo pose as Unokichi and vice versa.

A young doctor named Noboru Tachibana works in a prison, where he demonstrates a strong commitment to justice and impressive skills in Jujutsu. Throughout his work, he becomes intertwined with individuals connected to different cases. (

In the late Edo period in Kyoto, there was a tale of a mysterious samurai wearing a mask who chooses to fight for justice and eliminate wickedness. Amidst the chaos of samurais clashing due to their conflicting loyalties to the Tokugawa shogunate, the common people lived in fear. Kurama Tengu, the masked samurai, emerges as a protector, aiding the innocent in their time of need.

Saburo is employed at a medical facility on The Izu Islands, where the population has been decreasing. Known as the Young Doctor for his skill and sincerity, Saburo grapples with his role but ultimately believes he is making a positive impact. The Tenpo era marks the conclusion of the Edo period. Despite facing financial challenges on a daily basis, Nobu, the humble wife of Katsuie, maintains a cheerful demeanor. In this period, social status does not dictate relationships, and Nobu's kind heart is truly commendable. Katsukichi, my husband, is a skilled marksman with robust arms that are hard to dislike. I cannot help but adore Koiyoshi. Kokichi is supported by his radiance, carefree attitude, wisdom, and drive in facing life's challenges. Meanwhile, their son Rintaro observes his parents with a calm and intelligent demeanor. Inheriting righteousness from his father, Katsu Kaifune, Rintaro is determined to protect the people of Edo, displaying a love that transcends his mother's social standing.

During the Tenpo era at the end of the Edo period, there was a strong focus on reform. Katsuya Kokichi is known for his powerful arms, while his wife Onobu admires them when questioned. Despite facing financial struggles, she maintains a cheerful demeanor. Their son Rintaro is intelligent and ambitious, aiming to study Dutch in order to one day help the people of Edo as "Katsu Kaishu." Interestingly, he has recently developed feelings for a geisha from Fukagawa.

Yoko Miyama is employed as a physician at Touto Hospital, where she focuses on treating brain aneurysms within the neurosurgery division. Known for her dedication and understanding of the significance of her job, she prioritizes the well-being of her patients above all else. Miyama forms relationships with her coworkers, such as Kuroiwa Kengo, Kozukue Sachiko, and Nishigoori Takuma, while also grappling with feelings of remorse for neglecting her family.

In 1802, a young girl named Mio faced tragedy when she lost her parents in a flood in Osaka. Feeling alone after being separated from her friend Noe, she was rescued by Yoshi, the owner of Tenman Icchoan, a renowned restaurant in Osaka. Despite being forbidden from the kitchen due to her gender, Mio began learning to cook under Yoshi's guidance. When the restaurant was destroyed in a fire, Mio traveled to Edo with Yoshi and her husband Kahei. Through a stroke of luck, they were offered a job at Tsurya, a soba shop owned by Taneichi. Mio struggled with the different culinary styles of Kansai and Edo, as well as facing challenges from rival shops and societal barriers in her romance with the samurai Komatsubara. Despite these obstacles, she persevered and became a successful female chef.

Bunshiro's story is one of tragedy and triumph, as he overcomes adversity to become a skilled swordsman and protector of the vulnerable. His love for Fuku blossoms in their youth, but their paths diverge due to her poverty and his personal loss. When a corrupt official causes Bunshiro's father to take his own life, Bunshiro is shunned by society. However, he ultimately foils the official's plan to harm Fuku, who is now married to a local lord, and exposes the corruption. Years later, Bunshiro and Fuku reunite to reflect on their past and the enduring love between them. This tale is inspired by the jidaigeki novel "Semishigure" penned by Fujisawa Shuhei.

In the era of Edo under the rule of the ninth Shogun Ieshige, Orin's father was wrongly charged with trying to kill the previous Shogun Yoshimune. Following her father's instructions, Orin becomes a member of the covert assassination squad Tegusari-nin, led by Uemura Doetsu. Within the group, Orin bravely faces numerous threats. However, she eventually discovers that Doetsu is manipulating her for his own gain.
