Attempting to prevent my killings with mere words was futile. This was a statement found in the initial letter sent to Ippongi Toru, a wandering reporter for the local news department of Taiyo Shinbun. The murderer specifically targeted Ippongi and requested a public discussion to be held in the pages of Taiyo Shinbun. Subsequent letters contained intricate descriptions of the random series of murders that had unsettled the Tokyo metropolitan region. Utilizing the power of his words, Ippongi engaged in a direct confrontation with the culprit, who threatened another murder. The extraordinary exchange between the serial killer and the newspaper journalist ultimately had a profound impact on society.
