Denshichi from Kuromoncho works under a police officer and uses a special purple truncheon to combat crime in the alleys of Edo. This truncheon was given to him by Inspector Toyama Saemon, who oversees Kitamachi. Denshichi focuses on punishing wrongdoing rather than the wrongdoers themselves and shows compassion and kindness. Despite his cheerful demeanor, he carries the burden of accidentally causing a person's death while trying to help another. This is why he emphasizes the importance of preserving life no matter the circumstances.

Ooka Echizen was a magistrate in the Edo period who backed the Kyoho Reforms proposed by the eighth shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune. In addition to overseeing Edo, Ooka served on the judicial council and handled local government matters, as well as the management of temples and shrines. He dispensed justice with compassion and impartiality, earning a reputation for his fair and humane rulings known as Ooka Sabaki.

This gang had been plotting for two years to use Ochiyo to their advantage. Led by the infamous Kumokiri Nizaemon, they were a group of highly skilled thieves including Nanabake no Ochiyo, Kinezumi no Kichigoro, Subashiri no Kumagoro, and Ingakozo Rokunosuke. In response to the gang's activities, the shogunate appointed Abe Shikibu to lead the public security force Hitsuke Tozoku Aratamekata with the task of eliminating the Kumokiri gang. This marked the beginning of a fierce battle of wits and pride between Nizaemon and Shikibu. Despite the continuous threat posed by Hitsuke Tozoku Aratamekata, the Kumokiri gang sought to target a wealthy Owari merchant, only to be met by Shikibu's resistance. As the public security force closed in, the question remained: How would the Kumokiri gang carry out their theft?

In Western Japan, specifically in the Tsukigase domain, Kusakabe Gengo receives instructions to carry out the execution of his childhood friend and former chief retainer, Matsuura Shogen. Despite their past bond and shared experiences at a kendo school, their paths diverged after a falling out caused by an undisclosed incident. Speculations suggest that Shogen's actions have drawn disfavor for obstructing the domain lord's advancement. In 1868, discussions between the shogunate and the new government lead to the agreement to hand over Edo Castle. Kakurai Hayato, a hesitant warrior from Owari supporting the government forces, is tasked with overseeing the smooth surrender of the castle. The only issue is a retainer named Matooya Rokubei who refuses to leave. Rokubei, a former guard of the shogun, remains seated and only moves to attend to personal needs. Due to promises made to Saigo Takamori and Katsu Kaishu, disputes within the castle are prohibited, making it impossible to remove Rokubei by force. As Kakurai spends more time with the man, he begins to develop a strange understanding and respect for Rokubei's traditional demeanor.

The air around Edo Castle holds a tense vibe. A childless general falls gravely ill during a power struggle for succession. In order to protect a man who resembles Unokichi, the shogun summons Amari Bizen no Kami and his younger brother Yukichiyo. However, an immediate attempt on Yukichiyo's life forces him to flee and go into hiding. To ensure Yukichiyo's safety, Amari Bizen switches their identities, making Yukichiyo pose as Unokichi and vice versa.

The Tenpo era marks the conclusion of the Edo period. Despite facing financial challenges on a daily basis, Nobu, the humble wife of Katsuie, maintains a cheerful demeanor. In this period, social status does not dictate relationships, and Nobu's kind heart is truly commendable. Katsukichi, my husband, is a skilled marksman with robust arms that are hard to dislike. I cannot help but adore Koiyoshi. Kokichi is supported by his radiance, carefree attitude, wisdom, and drive in facing life's challenges. Meanwhile, their son Rintaro observes his parents with a calm and intelligent demeanor. Inheriting righteousness from his father, Katsu Kaifune, Rintaro is determined to protect the people of Edo, displaying a love that transcends his mother's social standing.

During the Tenpo era at the end of the Edo period, there was a strong focus on reform. Katsuya Kokichi is known for his powerful arms, while his wife Onobu admires them when questioned. Despite facing financial struggles, she maintains a cheerful demeanor. Their son Rintaro is intelligent and ambitious, aiming to study Dutch in order to one day help the people of Edo as "Katsu Kaishu." Interestingly, he has recently developed feelings for a geisha from Fukagawa.

There is no historical figure that captures the hearts and imaginations of people worldwide quite like Zhao Zi Long, also known as Zhao Yun. He was a renowned military general during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and early Three Kingdoms period. Known for his exceptional fighting skills, bravery, and charm, Zhao Yun initially served under the warlord Zan Gong Sun before switching sides to join Liu Bei as one of the esteemed Five Tiger Generals. However, as Zhao Yun finds himself entangled in a romantic rivalry between the lovely Xiaohou Qing Yi and the formidable warrior Gao Ze, he may realize that battles of the heart can be the most perilous of all. This storyline is adapted from Luo Guan Zhong's novel "San Guo Yan Yi." Three versions of the adaptation are available: 49 episodes (TV), 56 episodes (Uncut), and 60 episodes (DVD).

"The Book of Five Rings" by Miyamoto Musashi, a renowned 17th-century work on strategy and leadership, gained popularity among business executives centuries later. Musashi, orphaned at a young age, honed his martial arts skills and fought on the losing side during the Battle of Sekigahara. Evading capture, he spent years traveling and mastering the sword. His reputation attracted challengers, including Sasaki Kojiro, with whom he engaged in a legendary duel at Ganryujima.

Yoshimune Tokugawa serves as the 8th Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate. He faces ongoing issues with troublemakers causing chaos in Megumi, his city. To investigate these matters firsthand, Lord Tokugawa disguises himself as Tokuda Shinnosuke, an ordinary resident of Megumi, with the help of his trusted companions. Known as Shin-san to the locals, he collaborates with oniwaban (ninjas) and the leader of the Megumi fire brigade. Yoshimune utilizes the fire brigade headquarters as his temporary residence outside of Himeji Castle. While the fire brigade leader and oniwaban are aware of his true identity, the rest of the city remains oblivious to his status as the Shogun. Upon resolving the criminal activities, Yoshimune confronts the culprits, who often draw their samurai swords in an attempt to harm him without realizing his true identity. In most situations, Yoshimune skillfully handles the situation without causing serious harm, opting to use the blunt side of his sword. Only in extreme cases does he resort to using the sharp edge of his blade, demonstrating the severity of the circumstances.
