Set against the backdrop of economic reform in China, this narrative follows the struggles of ordinary individuals during a transformative period. Despite contemplating suicide at one point, Jin Yu was encouraged by a journalist named Pan Li Hua to continue living and take control of her own destiny. Eventually, Jin Yu overcame numerous challenges and ended up marrying a man who shared her passion for scriptwriting and Cantonese opera.
