SUET is devastated when she sees her parents' bodies displayed on the city tower, with YUEN, the man she loves, standing above and condemning smuggling. This betrayal turns her love to hatred. HIN helps SUET find work at his family's salt company to help her move on from her sorrow. In gratitude, she throws herself into her work. As time passes, HIN falls in love with SUET, but his illness makes him hesitant to confess his feelings. SUET's true identity is revealed when her estranged uncle reappears. Fearing for SUET's safety, HIN proposes to her.

In the Song dynasty, Prince Zhao Yun and Prince Zhao Rui fiercely vied for the throne out of greed. Leung Sam and her friend, Fa Ying Yuet, have a strong disdain for human traffickers and corrupt public officials - except for Gam Wah's colleague, Sum Yat Yin, whose honesty captivates Leung Sam, leading to her falling in love with him. Initially at odds, Gam Wah's conscience is stirred when his acceptance of a bribe leads to a witness's death. However, the police and underworld each adhere to their own unwavering, unofficial rules. Amidst a power struggle between a businessman and detective, Sum Yat Yin is demoted, straining his relationship with Leung Sam. Witnessing these events, Gam Wah feels anguish but can only silently support Leung Sam, hoping to atone for his past misdeeds.
