Setting out on foot along the Tokaido, the main road connecting Kyoto and Edo, the three women aim to start afresh at Ise.

Benzo, a cheerful and generous man, and Soji, a cool and sharp individual, are a duo of thieves who follow the motto of stealing ill-gotten money without resorting to threats or violence. They excel in their work and operate with skill. By day, Benzo works in food catering while Soji engages in gambling activities in the post town of Shinagawa. Together, they lead a group of thieves known as Ichishi and aim to climb to the top of Edo's underworld. One fateful day, Benzo befriends Kurazo, a successful gambler, and later on, they meet Soji in Yoshiwara, who has been pursuing young women. The courtesan Okon approaches them with a request to steal 11 prostitutes.

Mei Ayazuki, a high school girl, encounters a enigmatic magician named Chari while visiting an amusement park. Suddenly, Chari transports her back in time to Tokyo during the Meiji era. However, unbeknownst to many, Junan has a hidden identity as a vigilante who dispenses justice using a lethal weapon known as the "needle of death."

Mito Komon embarks on a journey to Nagasaki in order to uncover the reality behind illegal smuggling activities.

The monthly rent for the apartment at Tefutefuso is 13,000 yen, with the first month offered for free. There are no deposit or fees required. Despite the run-down condition of the building, six tenants were attracted by these favorable terms. However, there is a unique aspect to this offer - each of the six apartments is inhabited by ghosts. Initially shocked, the residents eventually form emotional connections with the spirits. They shed tears upon learning about the ghosts' tragic pasts, and find comfort and encouragement from them at times. By making physical contact with the ghosts, the residents help them find peace and move on to the afterlife.

Ooka Tadasuke served as a magistrate in Ise Yamada, which is now known as Ise City in Mie Prefecture. In 1712, he dealt with a thief causing trouble in the village, who happened to be a descendant of Tokugawa Ieyasu and the feudal lord of the Kishu domain, later known as Tokugawa Yoshimune. While previous magistrates had ignored Yoshimune's misconduct, Ooka, along with his friend Sakakibara Iori, took action to make him confess to the crime and then released him. Four years later, Yoshimune became the eighth Tokugawa shogun. Ooka was subsequently relieved of his duties as magistrate and instructed to return to Edo quickly. In 1712, Ooka had arrested Yoshimune for poaching at Akogigaura in Ise, where hunting and fishing were prohibited. Upon returning to Edo, Ooka was greeted warmly by loved ones, despite the somber atmosphere. He was summoned to the castle, where he reunited with Yoshimune after four years. Surprisingly, Yoshimune appointed Ooka as a magistrate in Edo. Ooka supported Yoshimune's Kyoho Reforms and not only managed Edo but also had a role in the judicial council, overseeing local government affairs, temples, and shrines. He made just decisions with compassion and fairness, earning him the title of "Ooka Sabaki."

During the rule of the eighth shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune, Ooka Echizen, an Edo magistrate, implemented the Ooka Sabaki to assist in the Kyoho Reforms promoted by Yoshimune. Ooka Echizen administered justice with compassion and equity, addressing wrongdoing that harmed the populace. His dedication to the well-being of the people earned him their admiration and respect.

During the rule of the eighth shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune, Ooka Echizen, an Edo magistrate, carried out the Ooka Sabaki to enforce the Kyoho Reforms. He was known for his just and compassionate judgments that alleviated the suffering of the common people. Ooka went above and beyond his duties to ensure the happiness of the people, earning their admiration and respect.

Takahashi Asanosuke, the heir of the town's headman, assists his father in resolving civil disputes that the magistrate is unable to handle. Alongside Yagi Seijuro, the son of a neighboring town's headman, Asanosuke learned the ropes as a constable. Their childhood friend, Soma Kichigoro, is also part of their close-knit group. Despite his carefree attitude, Asanosuke possesses remarkable deductive abilities and is often sought out by the people of Edo for help with their problems. He has a knack for unraveling even the most complicated situations with his unconventional methods, proving himself to be a valuable asset to the community.

During the Azuchi-Momoyama Period, Toyotomi Hideyoshi rises to power as the regent, overseeing his vassals as they accumulate wealth. Meanwhile, the common folk face increasing hardship and discontent. The Shiranami Yazaemon troupe offers them moral support, led by Yazaemon who is actually the notorious thief Ishikawa Goemon in disguise. Ishikawa defies Hideyoshi by infiltrating the homes of corrupt feudal lords and wealthy merchants, stealing valuables to distribute among the needy. Hideyoshi is determined to capture Ishikawa, a situation further complicated by the ulterior motives of Hideyoshi's concubine Chacha, his vassals Maeda Geni, Ishida Mitsunari, and others in his inner circle.

Matsumura Shinbei, a skilled ronin who enjoys drinking alcohol, faces challenges while raising his adopted son Tsurunosuke and navigating the city to resolve various issues.
