Kano Rintaro, Asawa Naoki, and the Ninth Sub-division team launch an investigation into the murder. The first person to come across the body is revealed to be the daughter of a government official, but Hayasegawa Masumi, the coroner, uncovers a surprising link between the fortune teller and Asawa. Masumi shows a strong preference for communicating with the deceased rather than engaging in conversations with the living, including Kano.
