The ancient city of Heian, now called Kyoto, faced internal strife. Concerned about the future of his realm, the emperor organizes an "Onmyo festival" to seek guidance on the city's fate. A group of nobles, including the Minister of the Left, Fujiwara no Masayuki, and his brother, the Minister of the Right, Fujiwara no Mitsuhiro, gather in the shrine within the Seiryo chamber. The Onmyoji predict the future by interpreting signs from various sources such as evil spirits, weather, the calendar, and Feng Shi. When Mitsuhiro questions about reading the stars, the imperial Onmyoji, Yasunori, gives a vague response. Another Onmyoji, Kamo no Tadayuki, mentions a powerful curse that they cannot dispel. Masayuki realizes the limitations of the Onmyoji's abilities. Suddenly, a fiery tornado erupts in the shrine, prompting Masayuki to protect the emperor's mistress, Ayako no Kimi. As the fire intensifies, Chihaya no Kimi, the emperor's second consort, sees an evil spirit within it. A man named Abe no Seimei enters the shrine and is hailed as a savior by military officers and consorts. Abe no Seimei, an Onmyoji with the power to banish curses and control evil spirits, brings an end to the chaos.
