However, everything takes a turn when Kiyoko's father is accused of embezzlement, leading to his arrest and imprisonment. Subsequently, Kiyoko is shunned as the daughter of a corrupt teacher, causing her family to face social isolation. Feeling powerless to help her father, Kiyoko seeks support from her childhood friend, the village doctor Yuma Souta. Souta and Kiyoko, who have a sibling-like bond, grew up together. In an attempt to aid Kiyoko, Souta approaches Shibuzawa Yahiko, a wealthy merchant known for his problem-solving abilities for a price. Yahiko demands that Souta kneel before him with the money as payment. Outraged, Kiyoko intervenes, declaring, "I would never want Souta-san to sacrifice his dignity to assist my father!" before leaving with Souta. Unbeknownst to them, this encounter with Yahiko alters their fates...
